Qualification and Experience
Kristy obtained her Bachelor of Commerce, with a triple major in law, economics and management from Rhodes University and a Bachelor of Laws from Rhodes University. Thereafter, she commenced employment with Eversheds Sutherland, a global law firm in South Africa. Kristy has since moved to Botswana and joined Briscoe Attorneys.
Kristy has experience in commercial litigation, particularly in matters involving commercial leases, construction disputes, insurance claims, business rescue and liquidation proceedings, marital and commercial divorces, delictual claims and mediations and arbitrations.
She has been involved in mediations and arbitrations involving large companies, particularly insurance companies involving millions of rands; mediating high-profile divorces involving billions of rands; enforcing restraints of trade; advising and representing creditors involved in business rescue proceedings as well as liquidation proceedings; debt collection; negotiating settlement amongst companies and individuals in disputes of various natures, particularly in the military and defense equipment industry; and employment law experience, particularly in the private security sector.
Kristy’s daily tasks range from conducting legal research, drafting legal opinions, providing legal advice, drafting commercial agreements, drafting court papers and appearing in the Magistrate's Courts and High Courts in Botswana for oral arguments.
